Adventures in Germany: Final Thoughts

Wow.  Today is my last day in Germany.  It truly is a surreal feeling because it feels like I just stepped off the plane in Frankfurt yesterday.  This whole experience has flown by, and it is bittersweet that I will be leaving tomorrow.  I am excited to see my friends and family, but I wish I could bring them all to Germany because I don't want to leave all of this behind.  I will miss my host family so much.  Before getting to Germany, I was nervous to live with a host family.  I was anxious that we wouldn't get along or that they wouldn't think I was being a good guest.  Thankfully, my experience with a host family has been incredible.  Throughout this whole process they have been so welcoming and loving and they have taught me so much about Germany.  I'm going to miss my host mom's cooking, and I wish I could just bring her back to Texas with me just so I can have her as my personal chef.  I'm going to miss their dog, Balou.  And I KNOW he's going to miss me and all the head scratches and belly rubs I give him on the daily.  They truly have become my second family, and I hope to be able to make it back to Germany so I can see them one more time.  I will miss being in Bonn, and the AIB.  School here has been so much more personal here, and I will miss saying 'guten morgen' to the student workers when I walk in each morning.  I will miss German bakeries, and being able to just stroll in a buy a 50 cent croissant from BackWerk.  Basically, I will miss EVERYTHING.  Well maybe everything except public transportation.

It will suck not being able to see the friends I've made here every day anymore.  They have made this trip so incredible, and I know I wouldn't have had as much fun without them.  The experiences all of us have had together have transformed me, and I will miss getting to experience something new everyday.  I am eager to continue these friendships back in College Station, and hopefully they will maintain the same amount of magic they've had here in Germany.  I am so lucky I found my future roommates here in Germany.  Katie, Nicky, and I will easily have the most lit house next year and all of our fellow students better come and hang out with us.

Traveling in Europe has been incredible, and I have loved every single place I have been to.  I feel as if I've bloomed into a responsible adult here, as it has been my job to plan each trip and to make sure all of my ducks are in a row, which is not an easy task.  I have been to 8 countries during this semester (Germany, Austria, Belgium, Netherlands, France, Switzerland, United Kingdom, Italy), and the adventures I have gotten to live out will be carried with me forever.  My passport is evidence that I truly been everywhere, and I am eager to show my new stamps to my family back home.  My Mom thinks I've done a good job taking pictures of everything, so I will pat myself on the back for that.  I can't wait to put all my pictures in a scrapbook that I will take with me everywhere I go in the future.

So, the last thing I want to say is thank you to everyone who has made this trip as special as it has.  So, to Artavia, Whitney, Claudia, Lawrence, Madeline, Lauren, Emily, Nicky, Kate, Katie, Vijay, Alwin, Jack, Joseph, Deanna, Darby, Lois, Lexie, Camella, IBK, Izzie, Brynn, Shannon, Austen, Mitchell, Corey, Harrison, Alexa, Nick, Sarah, Hans Peter, Sigrid, Niklas, Leonie, David, and Dr. Wasser -

Thank you.

In the next few weeks I will post another reflection on my trip.  I know this post was a bit short because it is hard to put everything into words when I am leaving tomorrow.  Hopefully, with a clear head I will be able to write everything more clearly and thoroughly.

Until next time,

Tschuss!
