The week I learned I'm not ready to leave Germany

Emily, Madeline and I made it with barely enough time to spare before our exam. BMEN 253 was our first exam of finals week and we had just spent the weekend relaxing in Spain. Luckily, we were permitted to use a cheat sheet which greatly aided our grades. That week we also had our second physiology midterm, physiology final and the enmodes booklet. Much of the week was spent studying or spending time with my host family.

The end of the program was fast approaching. This was our last week in Germany and it was hitting me pretty hard. So much had changed since my arrival in Germany. This foregin country no longer felt foreign. I felt at home wandering the cobblestone streets, taking the tram around, running to edeka for chocolate or wine. All of things had become routine for me and leaving all this behind was heart breaking. However, most of these feeling were suppressed so I could focus on my school work.

Thursday was my last exam and marked the end of my semester. That night a group of us met up at one of our favorite bars, James Joyce. We couldn't help but reminisce on our time spent in Bonn and traveling Europe. The dynamic of our group had changed so much since our first arrival. But in the end all the drama and tensions were resolved and only friendship remained. We all talked about how excited we were to hang out again in college station to continue the memories we had made here.

Friday was much more light hearted. We had the excursion to Remagen and the AIB farewell party. I was a little disappointed that we were unable to ride bikes to the destination. However, since we walked we were able to pick flowers along the way. By the time we arrived to the museum our hair and jackets were covered in dandelions. The museum was really educational about war and peace in Remagen. I was amazed to find out that a single bridge was able to take off a whole month of combat during world war II. We ended the excursion with lunch at an outdoor Italian cafe. The food looked just as good as the view. The waiter was an italian german man who would comment "beautiful" every time he walked past our table. Once we got home from the excursion, I took a nap. I woke up about an hour later and hung out with my host sister while we got ready for the AIB farewell party. I really enjoyed the farewell party. It was so much fun getting to meet my friends host families after I had heard so much about them throughout the semester. The food was delicious and the beer was plentiful. We all laughed and danced, it was the perfect way to celebrate how far we had come this semester.
