This weekend was longer than the
rest since this was where the Easter holiday fell for us. We decided on going
to Geneva this weekend. The first thing that struck me in Geneva was the beauty
of the city. The first day we got to experience the city by visiting the jet
dieu. We took a mini cruise tour on the massive lake Geneva and then visited a
botanical garden and attempted to check out the world health organization headquarters.
The next day, we decided to go to Chamonix and visit the alps in france. It was
beautiful there and when we arrived, we saw people paragliding and decided on
going ourselves! It was so much fun being up in the air, open to the elements
and the full beauty of the mountains. We then went on a train to get to a glacier
which we were able to walk inside of. I have already been to Alaska and seen
plenty of glaciers, but actually being inside of one was breathtaking, and
there were so many ice sculptures inside as well.
The next day also had a day
trip to france, but this time we went to Annecy. When we arrived we walked
around and enjoyed the beauty of the town. We soon came across both paddle
boats and motorboats that we could take out on the lake. I thought it was pretty
cool to be allowed to drive or steer the boat because of my father being a
captain of ships. Now I can tell him that I was a captain of one too. We then
made it back to Geneva and walked around the city a bit before going back to
the air b&b to finish homework.
The last day, we went to see the red cross
headquarters, and the United Nations headquarters in Geneva. Sadly, the red
cross building was closed on Mondays, but we did get a full tour of the UN
building and it was so well done that we were all glad we went. The trip to Geneva
did have a certain amount of conflict, however, it was an incredible place,
that ws relatively empty and extremely beautiful. I ended the visit by
convincing stephenie to run under Jet Dieu with me to the edge of the dock and
back. And although we got pretty wet, we dried off relatively quickly, and it
was refreshing at that time of the day.
