This week was so much fun. We
finally got to experience the German holiday “Karneval” which was a weekend
full of parties and celebration. On Thursday we got to watch a parade in the
city across the Rhine from Bonn, that night we took a math exam, which sucked
cause it put a pause in the karneval experience, but then at night we went to
go celebrate at a club in Bonn. The next day was not too crazy, we went to a
frat costume party, since karneval is about being in costumes. Then on
Saturday, we went back to Cologne to experience the ghost parade, but we
accidentally got split up and it finally ended up that we would all meet up by
the Cologne cathedral. We never found the ghost parade, guess that explains
it’s name, but we did stumble upon a street where there was a massive mob of
people moving down the street playing music and dancing. That was an experience
I would never forget.
Sunday was a more relaxed day, not
much happened, but it was still a good day that we spent together. Finally, on
Monday we went back to Cologne again, to celebrate Rose Montag (Rose Monday)
and watched the parade where people would be throwing out flowers and candy and
other little goodies. I was even able to get 3 roses, but soon handed them to
the girls around us who were collecting them. It was such a nice and fun parade
to watch and a lot of the floats and music was well made. Apparently One
Republic was also supposed to make an appearance but that never occurred
because both of the lead singers were sick and couldn’t preform. At the end of
it all, it was a fun experience and I am glad I got to experience it first
hand.
