The
past 14 days have been crazy! Looking back on it, everything seems like a
dream, a dream that I know is real. The Sunday after spring break was extremely
relaxing. I slept in after a late night out; I woke up with very little worry
about classes because..well there wasn't any work to be finished! Then around
7:30PM that night, everything hit me. I found out I had 3 math assignments due
that week, 1 circuits and signals hw due, a circuits test, a toothbrush tear
down analysis, and much more. I guess I couldn't have expected it to be spring
break for the rest of the semester. After all, we're abroad but still studying!
That week went as it did with any other week; a few late nights and entire days
spent at the AIB dedicated to a single assignment. On Wednesday, Dr. Lanzerath
from the German Reference Center for Ethics in the Life Sciences gave us a
lecture about his studies. The lecture was very insightful; it definitely
stirred my mind to view the things we do from a different perspective. At what
sacrifice will you work to obtain new innovations? Is 1 life worth millions?
When does technological innovation cause harm to the workforce? At what point
of the developmental cycle does a fetus become or a life? Or does a fetus count
as a life? These were a few of the ethical questions that were discussed about
among many. It truly got me thinking and reevaluating my actions! The
rest of the week passed; on Friday, after classes, I chilled for a little bit!
I went and got (more) gelato and relaxed at the Hofgarten, with some math
homework of course! Even when you're taking a break, it never really stops. I
got sushi for dinner that night; 24 rolls for €15, which is quite a deal if you
ask me! The next morning was an early one; it was the day of the International
Big Event! Similar to the Big Event hosted at A&M, this one was an AI{Big}
collaboration between the students of Texas A&M, LMU, and Penn. St to
volunteer their time to help out around the city of Bonn. There were several
groups; I worked with Zentrallager Sachspenden where I unpacked donated clothes
from all over Germany and rearranged them by gender and age for refugees. By
the end of it all, I was exhausted! I went home, cleaned up, and came back to
the AIB to continue the homework grind. Later that night, I went out with a few
of the students to Carpe Noctem until
about 2-3 in the morning. Sunday funday, Sunday studyday. Back to the grind!
P.S. For those who are trying to pull an all-nighter, you REALLY have to try
the Dr. Pepper flavored energy drink! It's game-changing.
