This weekend we went to Amsterdam.
The first thing that hit me was the beauty of the city. The canals and closely
placed buildings looked incredible regardless of whether it was day or night.
The first night we arrived, we decided to look around the city. We did walk
down to the red light district, but found it to be off putting, so we had
dinner at a Thai restaurant, then went home to bed.
The following morning, we went on a
sandman’s walking tour which was really well done with our guide, who cracked
jokes often and described the city very well.
After that, we went on a canal tour where we got to see the city from
below which is how it was made to be. It was beautiful to see the city from all
the different levels. Later, we went to the Heineken museum to learn about how
the beer was made. It was interesting to see that and also how they use the
same yeast as the original beer which makes you think that the taste is
probably the same as how it first tasted like.
The next day, we were able to visit
Anne Frank’s house, eat at a Dutch house of Pancakes, and the Van Gogh
museum. One place that must be visited
is Anne Frank’s House because of the individualization that the building makes
you feel. It changes the holocaust from numbers to actual people, then expands
it back to the number of these actual people that were so horribly treated and
the full effect of what happened. At the end it was a very educational and
enjoyable trip that I am glad to have experienced.
