This week was exciting to say the
least. On Tuesday, we left Bonn and arrived in Vienna where we spent the week.
This was a great start to the trips to come. We visited several very
interesting medical locations. First we visited a catacomb under a church where
victims of the black plague were buried. Another place that stood out was the
wax museum full of the parts of the body (like the hearts, lungs, muscles, and
full body skeletal/muscle systems) it was cool to see the representations of
these parts we learned about up close, but not actually real. My favorite place
to visit was the Narrenturm (madhouse tower) where there were human specimens
on display. This was probably the most intriguing and disturbing place that we
visited. It was full of deformities and abnormalities. Grotesque fetal
skeletons, skulls that had deformities or holes from murders. It had also
recently snowed in Vienna so we got to have snowball fights and I got to make
my first snowman! We also went to this one indian restaurant where there were
not any fixed prices, only donations which was a very unique and lovely thing
to see for a restaurant.
Over the weekend we went to Prague and had an incredible time. On Saturday, it was gloomy, but we got to see Charles bridge and explore the city. We also got to visit the old Jewish ghetto, Petrin tower, the controversial sculptures of David Cerny, and the Charles Bridge twice, since the second day was a beautiful cloudless day. We even got to end the visit by going to this little café that was a hidden hole in the wall called Skaustky Institut where I had a glass of hot chocolate and people watched in the large square by the clock tower.
