Bonn, Germany
April 3rd - April 8th
Running the Bonn Half-Marathon was an enjoyable experience until my legs began cramping and I couldn't walk like a normal person for three days. Super enjoyable.... Other than that, I have vowed not to run for a long time. Overall this week was nice with a field trip on Tuesday, a museum tour on Wednesday, one test on Monday, and a relaxing weekend, doing nothing but homework and enjoying the sun.
Bingen and Andernach, Germany
April 4th
While in Bingen, we went on a tour to the Hildegarde Museum where I got to see replicas of relics that made Hildegarde von Bingen, Hildegarde von Bingen. She was an incredible lady and revolutionary in the field of medicine. And the fact she was a women working in a male dominated profession and was so successful, made her who she is remembered as today. The experience was eye opening and enjoyable. Being able to learn about medicine from the ages and to actually witness history come life with the excursions we have partaken in is something that a typical college class setting can't provide despite how I wish they would incorporate this kind of teaching style into the curriculum. While we were in Andernach, we went to museum where we saw medical equipment through the years and talked about the different ways different cultures approached medicine. This truly brought the history of medicine to life and I appreciated the excursions this.
Arithmieum Museum (Bonn)
April 5th
The Arithmieum tour was probably one of the best tours I've been on because it appealed to my engineering and mathematic side/curiosity. Inside this museum were different types of machines that were used to reform arithmetic. It started with simple addition and subtraction along with basic multiplication and division and slowly got more complex. The devices started with man powered machines to automatic machines. All I wanted to do was play with all of the devices and figure out how they worked. This was a sign if anything that being an engineer is probably the best major option for me. After the Arithmieum Museum, we went back to AIB and watched a documentary on the chaos theory while eating ice cream. This was a very enjoyable day and one of my favorites under the category of everything engineering.
