On Tuesday we got to shadow some of the doctors at the Bonn Uniklinik. I somehow managed to get myself sick again, so I was worried that I would compromise the sterile environment of the operating room. Luckily, Dr. Wasser said that it was okay since we would all be wearing the face masks anyways. I chose to take the "general surgery" route and was assigned to watch the surgery to remove a systemic thrombosis from the thigh of a middle-aged man. It wasn't a super exciting, fast-paced surgery, but they mentioned a lot of things that I learned in physiology and it was very cool to see what I'd learned in class applied to real world scenarios. Plus, this isn't the career path that I want to take, so I'm glad my other classmates got to see the cooler surgeries.
Birthday
I had a birthday abroad haha. I couldn't really celebrate it because that day we had to move to our new host family's house and that took a lot of time. They did make me a cake, though, which was super nice of them since they didn't even know me. I am really really liking my new host family since they seem like they are genuinely kind people.
Bonn Marathon
Looking back in retrospect, this actually didn't seem that hard to do. I'm sure it actually felt like torture when I was running it, but I still feel like it's something that I would do again. I ran the seven mile leg and ran more of it than I thought I would. The next couple of days were hell because I was extremely sore, but it was all for a good cause.
Tldr; I'm so tired
