This was is. The big week. The week we’d spent the better
part of four months working for. The Enmodes presentation! Also there was some
other minor stuff, like a test or two, but the big thing was the presentation. That’s
what we’re going to focus on.
We spent most of the week wrapping everything up and putting
a nice bow on it. Rendering good pictures of our models, getting a good
spit-shine on the PowerPoints, that sort of thing. We stayed late a couple
nights in a row making sure that everyone knew all their lines and all the
presentations would play nicely together on one file. Just combining them from
all their different formats took several hours.
And then Friday came and we were on our way to Aachen once
more, whether we were ready to or not.
Fortunately, we were.
The presentation went off without a hitch, and Enmodes was
very excited about the ideas we presented. It’s unlikely any one of our ideas
will be used as-is, and instead what they make will likely be a combination of
different things we presented, much like what happened to our groups way back
at the beginning when there were eight instead of three. I guess I’m a little disappointed
they won’t be using my idea
specifically – there’s my ego going again – bit I’m glad I got to help make
something they were interested in regardless. It was a really interesting
project, and I’m really glad we got to work on it. Tackling an
honest-to-goodness real-world problem with an actual biomedical company was a
really valuable – and fun – experience. I’m glad we got the chance to do it.
Of course, we still have one more week of work left. Finals are coming.
