After a nice relaxing night on Sunday, Monday morning we woke up early to take a bus to Bacharach which is a small town in the Rhineland. In Bacharach we got onto a "cruise" boat that we would take for 2 hours to the Marksburg castle. The Rhine cruise was so peaceful and wonderful, it was so nice to be back on the water and boating around. While on the boat we also met a military man from the United States whose birthday it was...and wasn't all that pleased with us. We got off the boat in Braubach, and were treated to a delicious final entire group dinner of schnitzel and fries. One of the waiters however did not like any of us and when asked for something simple as ketchup he would deny it to you when you could ask another waitress and get it. After lunch we began our trek up to the Marksburg castle and at the top we were treated with some ice cream.
We began the Marksburg Castle tour with a look at the long line of lineage that held power in the castle. We were even told that you could be a "member" of the castle and own a part of it, but weren't told how much that was. We then continued the touring by seeing the garden, wine cellar (empty), kitchen, dinning room, torture and punishment chamber, armory, and finally what was like a shed of tools. The armory room was very cool because you were able to see how the knights armor had changed thought the years, and even what a chastity belt looked like back then. The Marksburg castle is one of very few castles that were never conquered nor destroyed thought the years. After the tour we got back onto the bus and took it back to our school so that we could do our final goodbyes, acknowledgements, and any final chores that needed to be done.
Once we were done at school, a large majority of us went to the train station to go to another city to see a concert from The Lumineers. By some miss planning on my part and seemingly all the trains running late, we almost missed one train and had to run to a bus. Luckily, we all made it to the concert and just in time to hear the main one song that everyone knew! We all had a great time at the concert, however it was shorter then most of us expected. All in all was a lot of fun to enjoy our time there and the atmosphere of being in a concert in Germany.
Once the concert concluded, we slowly made our way back to our home city and early enough that we decided to go out for one last drink. One last drink it was too because as we arrived the bartender was calling for last drinks. We all order something and spent some time reflecting on our travels. Before we left, we got treated with one of the best magicians I had ever seen. In a bar of 6 of us and this magicians, we were all flabbergasted three times, as each trick got better and better then the last. At the end of each trick, he had all of us yelling and in shock on how he managed to do what he did. Once all this excitement was over and the bar wanted to shut down, people said their final goodbyes and we all made our ways home concluding a very special last night in Germany.
