OxiCyclone: A Swirl of Emotions and Work- Enmodes Presentation

This week was one of the busiest and most stressful weeks of my life. Not only did we have a huge 211 test, but we also had our final enmodes presentation, which we had to ensure was perfect. After all the SolidWorks drawings, all the research, all the collaboration and design generation, we were finally preparing to show our final products to enmodes, who would then decide whether or not they would implement our design and continue with it in the future. Specifics on the project and solution will not be provided in this blog for confidentiality reasons.

After initially starting in groups of three, we all presented our initial design ideas and worked in groups comprising of two engineers and one BIMS student to determine a solution to the problem. After weeks of initial brainstorming, device designs, and research, we finally came up with an idea that we believed that would work, and eventually, we were joined with another group of three to continue working on the project based on the similarities of our ideas. After working for a couple more weeks, we once again presented our new design, this time to enmodes, and we were provided feedback on our designs. Overall, enmodes and our group was very pleased with our design, although we recognized that there was still a lot of work to be done with the project. After these presentations, our groups were finally condensed into three groups of eight.

We noticed that, although our designs initially seemed similar, we ultimately had to only take a couple of ideas from each group moving forward, making it difficult for us, and we ultimately had to decide which ideas were the most practical and developed for implementation. After several more weeks of working, we were finally ready to put together our final design presentations, and we probably stressed Dr Wasser and Haley more than any other group ever has since the existence of this program. Ultimately, however, we put together a finished product that was ultimately put together very well. I was very proud of our team, and I felt that enmodes would really like our idea. On the day of the presentation, everyone dressed up and went to Aachen in order to present our final project. Thanks to all of the practice and input from everyone else, our presentation went extremely well, and enmodes ultimately really liked our idea. I cannot wait to hear back from them and see what they did with all of our ideas.

The project was a really cool way to learn more about engineering and the work that goes into engineering solutions to a given problem and working with a company to make a desirable product. I firmly believe that it was the best opportunity that was presented to us during this semester, and the things that we learned and the work experience that we gained because of this project will be valuable for years to come. I am very thankful for the opportunity to work with a biomedical engineering company, and I am very excited for the future ahead of me!

Here are some pictures of our group for the project as well as my two group members from the previous semester (shout out to Hannah and Jordan):
