This post covers the weekend of January 28th.

Amsterdam was quite the eye opener. You always hear about the “coffee shops”, the red light district, and all the craziness that goes on there, but to actually be there in the middle of it all is a whole other story. To start out the trip, our reserved seats on the train were right next to some local Germans from Frankfurt. They shared drinks with us and we told stories and had a bunch of rowdy fun during the 4 hour train ride. I learned a lot from them as they gave us insights into how they view America and also of their Frankfurt pride. This being my first train ride ever, I was glued to the window, looking at the passing countryside.

Going from the quite cozy city of Bonn to the huge bustling metropolis of Amsterdam was jaw dropping. We were the typical tourist Americans, running around and taking pictures of the buildings and waterways. Because of a mess up on the end of our hostel, I managed to haggle the price to 60% of the original, which was the perfect start to our trip! For a condensed trip to Amsterdam, we were able to see quite a lot, from window shopping the red light alleyways to partying in an underground club.

We arrived home safe and in one piece! I cant wait to go back into the insanity of the city but at the same time you have to be careful because you might not make it back out of the rabbit hole!

Attached it just one of the many shops in the red light district.
