So the trip to Cologne was so neat! I loved walking to the top of Dom and seeing the sunset and the little people who were made instead of the leaves. It was so neat! Walking up the spiral staircase got a bit tiring but the view from the top was beautiful. The Rhine river and the city of Cologne was just crazy neat.
I'm not sure if that's the top of one of the stops along the way but still. Either way it looked neat.
When we first went on the walk around central Bonn with Rainer I was surprised to learn that the Romans had land all the way in Germany. I just imagined this place to always have been under the rule of Charlemagne and the Anglo-Saxons. To think that the mother of Nero was born here is just so weird! There are connections between places that you never would have thought would be connected. Sunny and party Italy with the cold and rainy Germany. When I go to Rome hopefully I'll have a better understanding of the strength of the Roman empire.
Today for lunch we went to a pasta place right off Oxfordstraße. I haven't had any beef since I got here so the spaghetti bolognese tastes so delicious. Even if I had been eating meat everyday the pasta still would have tasted as amazing as it did. Earlier in german class we had learned the word ''schmeckt's'' so when the cashier asked me a phrase which I totally forgot but it included the word schmeckt's I felt excited that I was able to understand what she said. Good day.
Back to Cologne! Ok so to add to the freezing day when we walked into the gelato cafe, it felt so good holding onto the cups of hot chocolate. The gelato tasted very good as well but in the middle of eating it was decided we were leaving so it was semi-painful walking outside without gloves holding onto a cup of ice cream. I need to learn to make more practical decisions.
It's hard to believe that we've only been here for three weeks. It feels like so much longer with all that we've done. It feels like this program will surpass any of the expectations I had before arriving here. Oh! On the way to the Haribo store I'm pretty sure I saw a statue of JFK. Fun fact of the day.
