I’m not sure if it’s a blessing or a curse that I have discovered how to get to the Haribo factory. The first and only time I’ve gone so far, I bought a whole bunch of candy (blessing) that I have already finished (curse). I know that I will definitely be making a return trip, just hopefully not in the near future.
Going to Cologne with the whole group was a blast. I had gone the weekend before but it was a lot more fun to have everyone there at the same time. We went on a tour of the El-De Haus, the Gestapo office in Cologne. Visiting this museum, similar to visiting other museums that center around horrible incidents in history, was disheartening. It never fails to make me sad and uncomfortable when I visit museums like this. However, we ha a wonderful tour guide who taught us a lot about the history of the house. After this, we had lunch and then did a city tour. Despite the cold and the wind, I enjoyed it and I learned more about Cologne than I had before. Last, we did a private tour of the Cathedral. I think I enjoyed this most of all. The weekend before, I had walked around the Cathedral and learned what I could from a pamphlet I bought and then I walked to the top. For this tour, we got to go places the general public does not have the opportunity to visit. We also went to the top of the Cathedral, but not to the part I had been to before. This place was not fenced in and we were the only ones up there. I have a fear of heights so being up there and walking around the outside of the Cathedral was frightening. Despite this, I’m glad that I had the opportunity to learn more about the Cathedral.
After a cold day in Cologne, Kathryn and I discovered a crepe stand below the Bonn Hauptbahnhof (central train station). This could also be a blessing and a curse seeing as we have already been back for more. I suggest that everyone on this trip get some because they are delicious!
As for the Hunger Games, I didn’t expect to go through them so fast! I recommend the series to everyone, especially since the movie is coming out soon. Hopefully I finish the last book in the series soon so that I can go back to schoolwork.
