Week 12: Nuremberg

Earlier in the week, the AIB group took a trip to Bingen and Andernach to look at some old medical stuffs from the the Hildegard von Bingen Museeum. The museum itself was quite small and largely uninteresting.  However at the end of the tour, we went on a mini scavenger hunt for various plants that were assumed to have some medicinal/magical properties. The plants in the garden were labelled but Hey, we still had to look for it.

On the weekend, myself and Christine took a very long train ride to Nuremberg.  The first night there, we went on a underground beer maze tour that just so happened to be completely in German. Luckily we loaded up with carbs in liquid and solid form before the tour so we didn't mind much, if at all. Later on we grabbed a few more beers and walked around the Nuremberg Castle until we retired for the night.

The very first full day, we took a trip an hour outside of Nuremberg to the town of Pottenstein to visit Teufelshöhle. We explored the caves for a few hours and went on a short hike around the surrounding area. It was a nice day to hike. When we returned to the cave to catch a cab to get back the center of Nuremberg.  We chowed down on some Nuremberger sausages, and visited two Museums. The first was the Nuremberg Palace of Justice to see Courtroom 600 where the First of many Nuremberg trials were held and the second was the Documentation Center- with a ton of historical information regarding the second world war. The most influential and chilling part of the the museum experience was seeing anti-Semitic children's drawings.
At the end of the weekend, we got some classic Bavarian pretzels and more beer. Best way to cap off a fun weekend.
