This weekend we participated in International Big Event. Big Event is a day of community service projects in College Station. Because of the many study abroad programs A&M has they have begun to organize Big Event Internationally. The Big Event in Bonn is actually the biggest one outside of Texas. We went to a retirement home and helped them in the garden. We weeded flower beds and planted new flowers. We got to work with students from other universities at the AIB. It was fun to get to know the other students because we have little interactions with them on a daily basis. After working for most of the day the staff at the retirement home made us some barbecue for lunch. We discovered that German barbecue is a little different than it is in America but it was still very good.
I also got to spend a lot of time with my host family this weekend. We played German board games and I tried a meal called raclette. Raclette is a special type of cheese that you melt on top of various toppings like bacon or onions. My older host brothers came over for dinner and I got to meet the oldest ones fiance. It was fun to get to see all of my host family together.
