Before ever imagining my study abroad adventures in Europe, I had always wanted to visit Italy. I can't really say why, but the streets and language and people on movies just made it seem wonderful. I am now proud to say they were not lying. The people, the architecture, the language, the ruins, the food, the gelato, it is all truly beautiful.
Leaving straight after class on Friday was definitely a good idea. Although the flight was only 2 hours, getting out of the airport, waiting for a bus, arriving in Rome, finding our hostel, and checking-in took much longer than expected. By the time we ate dinner we were starving! Our first Italian pasta and wine wasn't the best, but since it was only 4 euros and our stomachs were past the growling point, no one was complaining.
The first night in Rome led to meeting different people from all over the world and surprisingly, an Aggie. Rome is like a city made up of tourists and so far we have met a couple of Aggies. We always find each other based on our maroon shirts and I love how excited everyone gets. It's like finding a family member in Italy.
The Vatican was incredible and I am sad to say the pictures just don't do it justice. It is very hard to imagine how big and majestic these buildings really are. Many times I just took videos because putting all the pictures together to get an idea of the inside is too hard. The tour we got was better than waiting in line and I like how the guides are always very knowledgable on the material. I also like how they gave us these earphones, so we could wander off and still be hearing the tour guide.
After this long tour, we were pretty exhausted from all the walking and so we purchased some gelato to make everything better. Apparently, gelato makes everything better. :)
Ciao!
