Finally a nice relaxing weekend!

This past week has been fairly stressful as I had gone from studying for and taking a physiology test on Monday to hastily trying to both finish homework assignments and learn material for a test in diffeq on Thursday. After the test on Thursday, I was ready to pass out for a good 48 hours to recover from all of the sleep deprivation I put myself through. My host sister had been inviting me to this house party in Dusseldorf for the past week or so and I had finally made up my mind to say no, that I needed to stay in and rest. After having dinner with my host mom, she was quite surprised at my decision and pleaded with me to go saying that when I get her age, I won’t be able to go to parties like these and I should take advantage of the best years of my life. Using the same argument for staying in Hannover the extra night, when would I ever be able to do this again.

Last minute, Cameron and I decided to dress as cowboys but given that the theme was “Peter Pans Hooker Porno Party” – in German of course, one of our host sisters had ridiculously short jean shorts for Cameron to wear, while I made some of my own from some old jeans I had brought (pictures to come). Needless to say, the two Texan boys wearing jorts, boots, and cowboy hats were the talk of the night. I met people from all over Germany given that most of the people were students from outside of town. I even met a fellow English speaker from Ireland. Thankfully she was from southern Ireland which meant that I could understand her accent.

I had so much fun talking with everyone and learning about the different cultures. Among some interesting points of conversation such as trying to explain the American speed limit and justifying capital punishment, I learned that in Europe, if someone wants to pass by you in a crowded room, they just push right on through without regard for anyone in their way. Multiple times this happened, causing drinks to be spilled and whatnot, and each time the locals had to calm me explaining that that is just how people are in Europe. This would never fly in Texas, as everyone says excuse me or pardon me to warn others of their passing.

We got home late the next morning around 11am, where I was finally able to sleep. I slept a full 24 hours, waking up this morning at 12pm. Though I had an amazingly awesome time Thursday night, this week really took a toll on me and I’m glad that I am able to rest this weekend because I am staying in town.
