Wow! What a week. In the span of the last 7 days, I have been in 4 countries, 5 cities, 3 hotels, 4 cathedrals, and 3 museums. To say that I am exhausted is an understatement. This last week has reminded me more than any other how lucky I am to be a part of this program.
Feb. 5: Vienna Waits for You
Vieannse Sunrise |
While waking up at 3:30 AM two mornings in a row was hell, coming to Vienna was well worth the early flight. Being that Vienna is one of the two excursions outside of Germany built into the program, most everything was on the university's dime. Soon after arriving in Vienna, we began a walking tour through the city highlighting the medical-historical significance of the towns many hospitals and universities.
Feb 7: Mozart and Haydn in St. Anna Kirche
Feb. 9: Prague Day 1
Michaelskirche |
We wasted little time getting into the beautiful catholic architecture found in Vienna. This smaller cathedral is home to the the St. Michael's crypt. While I'm generally not one for the macabre, being in the presence of of the dead was a very unique experience and not nearly as odd as I would have imagined, unfortunately I was not able to take any pictures while I was down below.
Feb. 6: Strange Museums, Schnitzel, and a Show.
Our second day in Vienna began with a visit to the Pharmacy and Pharmochemistry museum. While most all of the artifacts were certainly interesting, there was a certain element to the place that was almost more unsettling than the crypt. Nevertheless still a very unique collection to have seen.
The Hofburg |
Still Life with Guitar, Picasso |
Wiener Schnitzel mit Apfelsalat. |
A fantastic performance worth the building it was played in.
Feb. 8: Vienna National History Museum
The museum itself was almost more of a marvel than the tens of thousands of items they had on display.
Feb. 9: Prague Day 1
Astronomic Clock, Jan Hus Monument, Foreground Church of Our Lady before Týn, Background |
Feb. 10: Kutna Hora and the Seldec Ossuary
If the though of being in a crypt creeped you out, this place would have left you in shock. Adorned with the remains of around 60,000 individual skeletons, the Seldec Ossuary is truly one of its kind.
Academic Review:
Given that the entire week was spent abroad there is not much to such with respect to classes.
Dude great post, great pictures.
