Past Weekend Trips: Part 2

This year for Easter break I finally got to go to Bavaria and visited Munich and Garmisch.  It was a weekend of poor travel situations but somehow we made it there and back!  On our way from Bonn, our already long train ride to Munich was lengthened when our train stopped in the middle of the tracks because of a mechanical issue for an hour and a half.  However, we eventually made it to our hostel even though it wasn't until after midnight.

We began our touring at the Glockenspiel where we went up the tower in New Town Hall, took panoramas of the city and came down afterwards only to be disappointed that, because it was Good Friday, the Glockenspiel would not play.

Afterwards we went on a great bike tour through the city and saw sites like the Residenz,
Theatine Church, Odeonsplatz, and the English Garden.

We started day 2 with a visit to Nymphenburg Palace where we walked the grounds taking pictures of the gardens.  We then went to tour the inside of the Residenz and were astounded by its size and extravagence and in turn spent several hours touring the many rooms of the palace as well as the Residenz Theater.  Also, on our way back we found a Lego vending machine in the underground and of course, had to take a group photo with it!

On day 3 we took a train to Garmisch to spend the rest of the break skiing.  The city didn't offer much besides skiing because everything was closed for the Easter holiday so I can't say much about our last 2 days except that they were spent on top of the mountain skiing!

We left Garmisch on Monday night and our train troubles continued when there were people in the tracks and our train was delayed by over an hour so that we missed our connecting train.  What ended up happening was we found an American man who lives in Germany and was able to translate for us and had the workers at the train station give us taxi vouchers from Mainz to Bonn and we finally arrived home at 1:30am.
