For our Easter break, a group of us traveled to Munich on Thursday after classes were over. The train ride was already going to be SIX hours, but thanks to a 90 minute delay, we arrived at our hostel even later than planned. It wasn't as bad as it sounds, especially when you have such a great group of friends with you! So at about 2am, we went into our rooms and sadly, woke up our Russian hostel-mate! She was a good sport about the situation, and I'm glad because I don't know if I would have been so forgiving. By this time, we were ready to pass out.
The next day, we ate breakfast at the hostel (YES, there was free breakfast)! Then we found our way to the meeting spot for Mike's Bike Tour. I was kind of iffy about this little excursion because it was pretty cold in Munich, but it was a blast! Despite the fact that my butt was soaked from the wet seat of my bike, we all had a great time. Our guide told us to "Dominate, Don't Hesitate." The six of us did our best, even Paige didn't crash her bike. The tour was 4 hours long, but about halfway through we stopped at the park to have lunch and beer... HUGE beers. I forgot what the park/area we were at was called, so hopefully one of the others adds this into their blogs. We saw surfing at the river in the park as well, and I wish we could have watched longer because some of the guys were really good! After the tour, we met up with some friends in the Penn State group at the hofbrauhaus. The combination of beer and pretzels is only one of the reasons why Germany is awesome. Then we attempted to do a pub crawl, but since it was Good Friday, a lot of places were closed... so we ended up at a place called The Wombat.
Saturday we spent a while at the Munich Residenz, it was a lot bigger than I expected! We at at the Augustiner Keller (thanks for the tip, Dr. Wasser) and watched the Munich soccer game on the big screen. While walking down a street in Munich, we witnessed a really awesome performance by three guys. They were singing, dancing, and playing their violins etc. with tons of energy. Robert liked them so much he bought a CD. We also went to the hofbrauhaus again to enjoy some rather large beers. I really liked the atmosphere, we sat around and played cards in the huge building. Some Australians joined us at our table, and we learned some other card games. We were exhausted from the past few days so we went back to the hostel to get ready for our train to Garmisch the following morning!
Munich was amazing, we didn't think Garmisch could top it!
