The Flying Golden Car

This week with the AIB we took an excursion to Cologne to see the Nazi secret police house as well as the Cologne Cathedral. When we got off the train and left the station we could see the spires of the Cathedral in the distance, barely sticking out above the the buildings of the city. Psych, the Cathedral was right there, towering above us in all of its gargoyley majesty. It was easily one of the tallest man made structures that I have ever seen, and aside from the height, it had detailed statues and engravings lining all of the walls, entryways, and the roof. We walked north from the Cathedral toward the secret police house, and it was on the way there that we saw a golden car with wings on the roof of a building. I don't think that anyone ever asked what it was for, or how it got there, but it was pretty cool. Later, when we were taking a historical tour of the city, we went to the new city hall building where they had a scaled card stock model of the city. The entire thing was made with white card stock except for one small detail: a golden car with wings on the roof of a building. I suppose it has pretty big significance so I'm surprised we were never told what it was. Maybe we'll find out at a later date!
