For the program, this week we were able to go to Vienna for
4 days. While we were there, we had the opportunity to visit several different
museums and historical sites. My favorite one was the Josephinum because of the
anatomical wax models. They were incredibly detailed. It was even better than
looking at the real thing because it was much “cleaner” than if you had
actually a similarly cut cadaver. Another thing that was cool about the wax
models was that the full-body wax models were in poses that were more typical
of a work of art rather than an anatomy textbook. If I were ever able to go
back to Vienna, the Josephinum is high on the list of places I would visit
again. Besides the Josephinum, there were other great cultural and historical
things we were able to see. Another that I particularly enjoyed was the concert
at St. Anne’s Church. Seeing my peers and teachers dress up was a nice touch
that preceded a memorable concert. St.
Anne’s Church was a beautiful and ornate, though small, church and was a
fitting venue for the pieces that were played there. The last program event
that I want to make sure to mention is the Freud house tour and lecture.
Getting to walk through the house that a famous, though controversial, member
of the psychological community lived and worked in (I even got to hang my hat
where he/ his patients would hang their hats!) and then get a more in-depth
look at Freud’s life in a lecture was something really special that few will
ever experience.
