Music & Ethics

This week was a relatively calm week as far as AIB activities go. On Wednesday night we went to a concert at Bonn University with a lot of the other AIB students. The concert consisted of a large choir, an orchestra, and four opera singers. I really enjoyed the concert, especially the four opera singers. The concert was the perfect de-stressor before our first circuits test the next morning, which was an added bonus!
Thursday we had a bioethicist come talk to us after class about general ethics and the part it plays in modern biotechnology. We discussed several 'hot' topics, such as stem-cell research, and then compared the views of Germany to the United States. It was interesting to hear the different ethical viewpoints that arise with the advancement of technology. I think as engineers we sometimes solely focus on the technological side of things and don't consider the ethical implications or questions that come along with our work. I will definitely have to keep that in mind with my work in the future, especially being in the medical field.
Although this week was pretty quiet, it was a much needed break in order to catch up with some schoolwork and get ready for our upcoming week in Vienna!
