For those who don't know, The Big Event is one of the best Aggie traditions there is. One day a year Aggies all over the world come together to join in serving the community. The largest Big Event takes place in College Station, TX where this year over 22,000 students gave back to the Bryan/College Station community who welcomes us in our home away from home. This year, since we are abroad we were not able to join our fellow Aggies in Texas, we participated in our own Big Event here in Bonn to serve the community who has welcomed us this semester in our home away from home away from home. Several groups went all around the community serving in different ways such as volunteering at the Refugee Shelter and churches and even doing some gardening.
My group served an organization called "Nature Friends, " (that's only the english translation though). We spent our day cleaning up a children's park painting, gardening, and doing some yard work. Even though we didn't have all of our fellow Aggies around, we got some of the other study abroad students from other schools AIB is hosting to participate with us as well.
Overall it was a fun experience and I'm glad that we still got to participate in one of my favorite Aggie traditions, even though we are so far away form home.
