Dublin
Late Friday evening, a few of us embarked from France to
Ireland. Dublin was our next adventure. Getting to Dublin took longer than I anticipated.
We flew out of an airport that was about an hour and a half outside of Paris.
We had to take subways and a bus just to get to the airport and then a plane
and a taxi before finally arriving at our hostel.
Although we got to Dublin late that evening, we still wanted
to do a bit of exploring. This was short-lived, however, because none of us had
thought to check the weather… Dublin was COLD! We ended up at a 50s diner near
our place drinking milkshakes. Not a bad first night.
Saturday, we had booked a “Paddy Wagon” Tour, basically a
charter bus that takes you to different places all over Ireland. It was from
8am to 8pm…a long day, but we got to see some cool things. My favorite, and the
highlight of the tour, was the Cliffs of Moher. They were spectacular. The
weather held out for us for the most part, so we had great views. We walked all
along the cliffs, taking pictures, having fun, and trying not to be clumsy. The
only downside to this tour was that I got motion sickness not too long after
departure. We were in the very back of a bumpy bus that drove for many hours on
end. I managed to make it to the end though! That evening we had dinner at a
burger place, but I got fish and chips. Later, we found what we thought was
just another pub. We went in for some drinks and card games, but when Blake
went to use the restroom downstairs, he came back with exciting news. There was
a dance club downstairs. So we migrated down there for a bit, dancing, until we
got tired.
The majority of Sunday was spent in a place I probably wouldn’t
have chosen to spend time in while visiting Dublin… Because we had a lot going
on the following week with school, we stayed in a McDonalds doing homework for
a large part of our day. After everyone was sick of looking at 211, we went out
and walked the streets and bought some souvenirs from gift shops. We then made
our way to the Temple Bar area of town. This was a really cool bustling part of
Dublin. It had lots of live music, street art, and pubs. That evening, we had
dinner at a traditional Irish restaurant. A few of us got the “Irish Feast”
which came with stews, fish and chips, cottage pie, etc. I was beyond full
after this meal.
We decided to fly back to Bonn early Monday morning because
it was cheaper. We also decided to just spend Sunday night at the airport because
it was cheaper. So at 11pm, we took a taxi to the airport and did some more
homework at a very empty café/bar. Slowly, each of us trickled away to find a
chair to sleep in for a few hours. Our flight was at 6:50, so we only got a few
hours of sleep. We made it back to Bonn around noon, totally exhausted.
These next few weeks are insanely busy with school. We have
a 211 test, our final presentation for ENMODES, another physiology test, a 253
final, a physiology final, and a 211 final…..We’ll see if my sanity still
exists at the end of all this.
On another note, I can’t believe I only have two more weeks left
in Bonn. How the hell is that possible? Man time flies.
