Week 5

This week was full of studying, school, and a crazy fun weekend. On Wednesday we were able to tour Bayer in Leverkusen. This tour was not what I expected at all, but was very interesting. I learned  a ton about the Bayer company and realized that they just weren't a pharmaceutical company, but also does agriculture research. I also learned about their merger that will be the biggest in Europe. The rest of the week was full of studying for our first physiology exam. Now it was the weekend, which was one of the best weekends I have had thus far. We decided to go to Munich this weekend and oh my was it so beautiful. Saturday morning we were able to go view and get a english tour in the Neuschwanstein Castle and Hohenschwangau castle. These castles were so incredibly gorgeous not to add there was snow everywhere which made the views even more beautiful.

Here is a Chelsea and I in front of the Hohenschwangau castle.
Here is the gorgeous Neuschwanstein castle. This castle was actually the castle that Walt Disney was inspired by for the Sleeping Beauty castle. This castle was built in the 19th century, but was never finished completely. The inside is something that I have never seen before, there was even a indoor cave hallway in the kings personal apartment. After the castle tours we travelled back to Munich and had dinner at a famous bier hall called Augustiner Keller. The food was so incredible plus it was pretty awesome to drink out of a mass. Sunday morning we went to see the glockenspiel clock in Mariensplatz. This clock was incredible and even had scenes of moving people that danced along and jousted to the four songs played. After watching the glockenspiel clock we climbed the tour of the St. Peters church. The views were incredible as you can see below.

After climbing to the top of St. Peter church tower we traveled to Dachau concentration camp memorial. This was such a remarkable experience. I can't even describe how sad this experience was, however I think every individual needs to see things like this. While we were at Dachau our vice president Mike Pence was there on a tour with his family and brought the flowers in the picture below as a gift from the United States in memoriam to those who lost their lives and those who endured this pain. I was honestly completely in shock of how big this concentration was. It is about 1.5 km in length. Dachau was an eye opening and heartbreaking experience, but I am so glad I was able to experience this and will always remember what happened there and do my part to make sure history will never repeat itself in this aspect. After Dachau it was time for dinner and the trip back to Bonn. We decided to take a night train because it saved us about one hundred euros. However this train timetable meant we had a three hour layover in Frankfurt Main Station from midnight to three in the morning. Thank goodness McDonalds was open and that Claire brought cards because it allowed the time to fly by a little faster. We made it back to Bonn at 5:45 this morning. Now it is time for week 6 and Karneval.
