Week 4- Praha, Czechia

Image may contain: 1 person, smiling, outdoorHello! I left off last time right when we were wrapping up our Vienna excursion. From there, a big group of us took a bus to Prague. We were all pretty exhausted after a week of touring Vienna, and I was a little apprehensive of how this trip would go. Luckily, this adventure went much more smoothly than the previous two! Prague was absolutely gorgeous. I loved the colorful buildings, the enchanting St. Charles Bridge, and the anti-Communist artwork (John Lennon Wall, David Cerny's Barcode Babies). I also tried this wonderful dessert called a trdelnik, which is basically a grilled cylinder of dough covered in sugar and cinnamon with melted chocolate lathered on the inside. It was way more sugar than I should've had at one time, but it was one of the most delicious desserts I've ever tasted. Anyway, one of the main reasons that we had such an interesting time in Prague was due to the fact that Kyle is a master planner. He was full of great ideas of places to visit and always knew how to get around. On Sunday, he took us off the beaten path to a park up on a hill. From there, we hiked up to the Petrin Lookout Tower. We climbed 299 steps to the top, where we had a spectacular 360 degree view of Prague, the St. Charles Bridge, and the Vltava River. It was surreal to be up there, realizing that I was in Eastern Europe, a place so completely different from San Antonio, Texas, looking down on one of the most beautiful cities in the whole world.

On our flight back to Dusseldorf, our plane was delayed by about 40 minutes and we missed our train back to Bonn. After our landslide of problems in Amsterdam, this did not worry me at all. We hopped on another train and we were able to arrive in Bonn at around the same time that we had originally planned.

This week in classes, we learned more German and studied cardiovascular physiology. I'm enjoying all of my professors still and love the small classroom environment. In pharmacology, we had to watch this pretty strange video about the discovery and development of anesthesia. We learned a lot about the subject and had a few laughs while doing so. Anyway, things are going pretty well and I'm excited for the adventures to continue. Tschuss!
