Week 12- France

After a relatively light day of school on Monday, we woke up at the crack of dawn Tuesday morning to begin our second long-term group excursion of the trip- France. After a couple of hours on the bus, we stopped for gas in Luxembourg. Due to the fact that we got out of the bus and walked around a bit outside (& even bought food), I consider this enough to count it on my list of countries visited. An underrated part of our time in France was the amount of time that we spent on the bus, which allowed me to be very productive in working on some projects. After arriving at our first destination, Beaune, around midday, we settled into our hotel and then toured the Hotel-Dieu de Beaune, a former hospital for the poor in Burgundy. Now a museum, this building's architecture was beautiful, both inside and out. The next day, we visited the Unterlinden Museum in Colmar, which most notably contains the Isenheim Altarpiece. Both museums contained quite a bit of medical history that Dr. Wasser had discussed at lengths in History of Medicine. I really enjoyed these first two days, but Paris was awaiting our arrival.

After a relatively short train ride from Strasbourg to Paris, we settled into our hotel that evening. The next day proved to be one of the craziest of the entire semester. After visiting the Eiffel Tower and the Arc de Triomphe, we worked our way towards the Louvre. The Louvre was incredible, but the first thing that I will always remember about this experience will be my furious struggle in trying to register for classes while I was sitting in the same room as the Mona Lisa. That afternoon, me & Milo explored quite a bit of Paris before our group dinner at a creperie. Afterwards, a group of us decided to go to the top of the Eiffel Tower on a very windy and rainy night, which is up there for the coolest thing I've ever done. Unfortunately, our trip to Versailles the next day was canceled due to ongoing strikes, but Julien, our tour guide, showed us another part of Paris. After the excursion ended, some os us had weekend plans in south France.

After arriving at our AirBNB in Nice, we spent a day in Monaco and a day in Antibes. Monaco was beautiful, and we were able to explore most of the country in a day trip. When in Antibes, I was able to swim in the Mediterranean. France week was another great week spent with the people on this trip, with many memories that I will never take for granted.
