Brussels, Belgium was absolutely stunning. From the waffles to the fries to the architecture, Brussels, Belgium was an experience I would experience again. The buildings and churches had a Gothic architectural style while government buildings of the past had a more Victorian style mixing gold trimmings with green and pink paint. For the most of us, Brussels, Belgium was our first independent trip outside Germany. Traveling to Brussels was surprisingly easy with FlixBus.
There few times in your life where you can definitively say "This is the best". The Belgian waffles were one of those few times. I first had the classic Belgian waffle with warm chocolate which filled my belly and soul with joy. I had to go for one more Belgian waffle before I left. This time, I got the Liege waffle which was more crispy and sweet than the classic Belgian waffle. I got it with ice cream and lemon juice; an interesting but delicious combination. One would think that vanilla ice cream with freshly squeezed lemon juice would not work, but it does and wonderfully so. The creaminess of the vanilla ice cream perfectly complements the sweet crispy Liege waffle while the sour tanginess of freshly squeezed lemon juice flawlessly offsets the heavy weight of sweetness.
After asking some of the locals where the best Belgian fries were, we were led to this small hole-in-the-wall joint with a large line. We knew we were in the right place once we smelled the aroma of freshly fried potatoes while waiting in line. The portions were huge for a '"Small" which was great for the wallet. The sauce was slightly spicy and went by the name of "Samurai"; it was delicious with a slight spice but not overbearing, complementing the Belgian fries impeccably.
