Week 12

This week was amazing! We headed to Beaune, France on Tuesday and had a tour at the Hotel Dieu. Hotel Dieu was beautiful, and the guide was really knowledgeable with the history there. After the tour, we had some free time. A few of us headed to grab dinner at this small little restaurant and then headed to get gelato! We were so tired from travelling all day that we just went back to the hotel to relax and read for a bit. On Wednesday, we all headed to Colmar, France and went to Musée Unterlinden. This tour was so interesting and I loved getting to listen to Dr. Wasser talk about the altarpiece.  The second position of the altarpiece was my favorite. It looked so angelic and beautiful compared to the other positions. After this tour, we had a couple hours of free time and Amanda and I just walked around Colmar. We ended up finding a market that had a gluten free quiche and some pastries! Colmar was a beautiful little town, and I loved seeing the bridge that had all the red heart locks on it. Later, we headed to Paris and got there around 8. Once we checked into our hotel, Amanda and I went to this pizza place where the pizzas were huge and in the shape of a heart. The staff were so nice and the food was amazing, especially after a long day of travelling. On Thursday, we had a city tour of Paris with Julien. Getting to see Paris was a lot of fun, and it was a lot of walking. Seeing the Eiffel Tower was honestly a little underwhelming. I was expecting it to be some amazing landmark, but it really wasn't. After the city tour, we had some lunch, and then headed to the Louvre. I had no idea how massive the Louvre was until we were walking around in there. I asked Julien how long it would take you to see every piece in the Louvre, and he said "If you just look at each piece for 20 seconds, 24 hours a day, it would take eight days to see the entire Louvre". I was in SHOCK. The history that the Louvre contains is just crazy to me, but it is so interesting. After the Louvre, Amanda and I headed to a bookstore and bought a couple books! We then also headed to Pandora, Christian Louboutin, and got some souvenirs for our parents. I bought myself my first pair of red bottoms!! We had a group dinner at a crepe place, and after that, we went somewhere I could eat. We found this cute little Thai place, Peri and I loved the food! This was the best Thai food that I had in awhile. After Thai, we headed to the Eiffel Tower to take pictures when it was twinkling!!! On Friday, we were supposed to go to Versailles, but it was on strike ): Instead, we had another tour of Paris, and I ended up finding the best gluten free bakery. The pastries literally flaked, and the staff was so nice. I probably spent around a hundred euro and could've spent more had we spent more time in this little town. Amanda, Victoria, and I headed to this Italian restaurant we found online... the food was gross and overpriced... that was fun. Afterwards, we headed to Lyon! We got to Lyon fairly late, so we didn't do anything until the morning! We headed to this brunch place that had gluten free pancakes! The pancakes were really good, and the chai was decent as well. Erin got some pork dish and she hated it/: After brunch, we walked around and ended up in the middle of some parade. We got to see some costumes, dancing, and people were playing some instruments. It was a lot of fun and it was really cool to see. Then it randomly started hailing? So, Amanda, Erin, and I headed to a grocery store to grab some snacks, and get some wine. We ended up just chilling in the airbnb and watching Bridgerton the rest of the night.

Sunday was a hot mess in itself. Amanda and I got up at 5 AM to catch a train from Lyon to Paris. That went smoothly. Once we arrived in Paris, we walked a mile to the Flixbus station where we waited an hour for our bus. It was delayed for about 10 minutes, and I had jokingly said "We are getting ghosted by our bus". Little did we know, our bus would actually not come, they ended up emailing Amanda an hour later and they put her on the next bus out, but my name was crossed off the ticket and wouldn't be able to get on the next bus *insert crying emoji*. So, we had to book a last minute flight, took an uber to the airport that cost us 60 dollars, and when we got to the airport, they wouldn't let us check in because we were there two hours before our flight. So we sat in the airport for what felt like years until we were able to check in. By this point, both of us were pissed off, tired, and hungry. When they finally let us check in, the security line took an hour because the workers couldn't get the machine to work, as well as, people not paying attention in the lines. When we FINALLY got through, we still had to wait for our flight for another two hours. Once we finally boarded the plane, the flight itself was easy, getting our luggage from Frankfurt was easy, and then we just had to wait ANOTHER two hours for our train to Siegburg. Amanda ended up eating KFC for dinner, and I found white rice... you know we were downbad for food at this point. Our train got delayed for about 5ish minutes, and then we headed home. Once we finally got home, we both showered and passed out. It took us 17 hours to get home, when it really was only supposed take 7 hours max.

All in all, France was fun, but France most definitely wanted to keep Amanda and I there.
