Some fun facts about Berlin...It used to be a small town with relatively little significance before it became the capital. The roots of the name Berlin are most likely from the German word for swamp, but the people like to believe that it is from the root word for bear. Thus, the city mascot is a bear, which you can see and buy in various forms around town.
Alright, enough about the name. Berlin was pretty awesome! We started by taking a city tour that took us to Brandenburg Gate, the Jewish Memorial, Hitler's bunker, the past military air force center/Ministry of Ministries/current tax office, the Berlin Wall, a few important town squares, and Checkpoint Charlie. Our tour guide was great. She kept us interested in the story of Berlin's past and present and even quotes Biggie Smalls to start the tour.
On our free time, we went on a pub crawl, wandered around town, and saw/took pictures in front of many important places in the city, and sat in a Dunkin Donuts for a few hours before leaving the city. I really enjoyed the pub crawl and sitting in Dunkin Donuts. This may seem silly since these are the least significant pieces of the trip with regards the city itself, but they were the best for getting to know my friends. The pub crawl and Dunkin Donuts gave us some quality time together. This includes some funny stories and some good talks. Between this aspect of the trip and the city itself, I truly enjoyed my trip to Berlin.
