The Black Forest and Pre Black Forest Stuffs

Lets take this one in chronological order:

Friday afternoon-
We still had no idea if we would even be going to the black forest or not. We had an entire trip planned out, but not car to get us there, and no hotel/hostel to stay in if we did manage to get a car. Tessa and I went to/called a handful of car rental companies and were unable to find any automatic cars that we could rent. When we were just about to give up hope of going on our trip, I had the bright idea to try the cologne airport, because airports tend to have loads of rental cars. We called them and they referred us to a branch company in Bonn that we had not tried yet that had a car available. We called them and reserved the car for 4 that afternoon. When we got to the rental company, our reservation was nowhere in their system :( we talked to their manager for a bit and were able to work out the rental of a different car (cheaper!) by this time it was after 6 in the evening, and we still had to go pick up Kelsey. After we fetched her from AIB, we were on our way. Because we left almost 4 hours after we planned to, we were unable to do any of the activities we had planned for that evening. After roughly 4 hours of driving, we ended up in Triberg where we had reserved two rooms in a B&B just a few hours before. We went to sleep shortly after arriving so that we would have plenty of energy for the next day.

Saturday-
We woke up bright and early and headed into the main part of town to get some breakfast. We found a nice little cafe next to a market and got a traditional German breakfast (bread and meat). Afterwards we hit up the market to buy some random foods to eat for lunch later. We then headed to the tallest waterfalls in Germany (name could not be found) and hiked quite a ways up to see them. It was absolutely beautiful and reminded me of the Smoky Mountains back in Tennessee. After that we ate lunch and bought some souvenirs then headed out to go see the second highest peak in the black forest. We sadly could not reach it by car, and the hike would have been to long to make it back down by sunset, so we found another waterfall to visit. same story as the last one, we hiked up, saw it, twas awesome, hiked back down. We then drove to our next hotel and ate dinner there and just stayed there for the rest of the evening and played cards in on of the rooms until we went to sleep.

Sunday- We ate breakfast at the hotel, and then made our way to the Hohenzollern Castle. We signed up for a German tour (the soonest one in English was at 3 so we wouldn't have been able to make it home in time), and then began our hike up the very steep mountain to get to the castle. We wandered around once we got up there while we waited for our tour, and we were amazed at everything we saw. I have seen a handful of cool castles in my lifetime, but this one was definitely the most spectacular. We then went on our tour, which was mainly just so we could see the inside, since we couldn't actually understand much of what was being said. We at least knew when the tour guide made a joke because the whole crowd laughed, so that was helpful. After the tour, we ate lunch in the courtyard, and after that, ate dessert in the courtyard. For dessert, I had the famous black forest cake, made with the famous black forest cream. It was quite delicious and definitely worth the small fortune (in terms of buying desserts) that I paid for it. Once we finished, we hiked back down and hit the road back to Bonn. I made it home just in time for dinner, Huzzah!
