I Survived Rainer's "One Hour" Hike

Because the hike on Sunday was optional, I'm going to count it as a non AIB event and thus write my non AIB blog post about it. The day started out with a nice long wait at the main train station in Bonn while we waited for Rainer to show up. He ended up being about half an hour late and explained to us when he got there that "Shit happens." which I suppose is quite true sometimes. We took the tram to Konigswinter which is on the east side of the Rhine river. We began our hike up to the Dragenfelds ruins at the top of the nearest mountain. This was probably the steepest hill I've ever had to walk up, and so by the time we made it to the top, I was quite tired. Luckily, this was the hardest part of the hike, and we were just going to walk down and eat lunch when we got to the bottom... at least I thought this was the case. After enjoying the view from the top, we were on our way to the next mountain in the chain of The Seven Mountains. We hiked through the woods and hills for a few hours after leaving Dragenfelds before we finally ended up at a secluded monastery in the woods. Here we ate lunch which consisted of a delicious Schnitzel as well as a tasty white wine. Afterwards, Rainer taught us about the monastery and then we began our actual trek back down to konigswinter. All in all, twas an excellent Sunday excursion.
